Toothache in Burlington Ontario
Toothaches can have a variety of causes, and the pain can range from mild to excruciating. At Family Smiles Dental, we will provide treatment when you have a
toothache in Burlington Ontario, but we would much prefer to help you prevent one so that there is no need to address it at all.
The simplest type of
toothache in Burlington Ontario is one caused by a cavity; either a new one that needs filling, or one that has already been treated, but the filling has come loose over time and fallen out. The vast majority of toothaches are the result of your tooth's natural protective layers becoming compromised. With a cavity, tooth decay has allowed an opening and the nerve has been exposed. The same is true when your tooth becomes chipped or cracked. Such damaged teeth can usually be remedied with the placement of a crown. Impressions are taken and sent to the dental lab. You will be fitted with a temporary crown until the permanent one has been fashioned. The real concern, though, is that the pulp, the part right next to the nerve, will become infected by bacteria. The simple fact is that the longer your inner tooth is exposed, the greater the chance there is for an infection to set in. An infection means root canal. And even though this procedure has, thanks to advancements in technique and equipment, become virtually pain-free, it is obviously not ideal to have to remove the pulp and nerve, and then seal off the canals of the tooth. Yes, it will save your tooth if successful (over 90% of the time), but far better to avoid a
toothache in Burlington Ontario. Brush when you wake, and again before going to bed at night; that time accompanied by vigorous flossing. Avoid sugar in your diet, and be sure to come to our office twice per year for a dental checkup and teeth cleaning. The above comprises the best way to prevent toothaches.
